Greetings Naturalists, The natural world continues to amaze me. There is a family of robins nesting in the maple tree, and a few catbirds have decided to nest in the hedgerow. On this small property, they continue to find the resources they need to raise your their families. Yesterday, the robins were yelling as I hung the laundry on the line. I know that my clothes will be safe from the release of fecal sacs, because it is too close to their nest. When the parents clean out the nest, they always deposit those bundles farther afield- usually where my car is parked. Haha.
On another topic, I would like to let everyone know about an exciting change for the research center this fall. On September 1, 2020, the Pocono Avian Research Center is merging their mission and their research activities with the Pocono Heritage Land Trust. This represents a great and exciting collaboration between like-minded organizations with a focus on the Pocono Mountains. I want to encourage you to visit the PHLT website (http://www.phlt.org/) and take a look at the conservation efforts of this non-profit land trust organization. This is a great opportunity to continue our research programs and education activities in collaboration with a land preservation and education organization that has been so important in Monroe County since 1984. I want to express my gratitude to the board and staff at PHLT for their encouragement and support throughout this process.
I hope you have been getting outside to birdwatch and to see the evening stars. Please continue to stay safe and healthy. Wash your hands, wear a mask, and maintain social distancing. These are the essential tools that everyone can do.
Enjoy the birds.
