Summer 2019 Greetings Naturalists, This summer represents the start of our 20th year of breeding season studies in Monroe County.
I personally cannot believe that so much time has passed since we first began approaching landholders and local conservation organizations about partnerships and bird surveys. We have met and worked with many wonderful people throughout the last 20 years, and have seen the swell of support for the local environment. It is always wonderful to be asked to speak at a local event, or share our passion for birds with a community association.
We are pleased to have worked with so many wonderful, caring and passionate people throughout the years. We love to hear about the work that is being done by volunteers that have moved on from the area, and are continuing to learn and study the changing natural environment. Not all of the past students and volunteers have continued on with avian studies, but their work still resonates with the observations, conservation, understanding, and protection of the natural environment. This is where they show their connection to our natural heritage.
As we begin our 20th year, we will continue to work alongside the community to maintain this beautiful, lush, and diverse community of organisms.
Barrett Birding Club : The club meets on the second Tuesday of the month, at 7 pm at the Friendly Community Center (http://www.thefriendlycommunitycenter.org/). Each month we discuss where to go birding, different birding tools, and more. You do not need to be an expert to join us, just have an interest in learning more about birds. We hope to see you there.
