June 2013
Welcome Naturalists,

We had a wonderful time at the meeting of the Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology, the PSO.  There are some amazing studies being done for: Golden Eagles population dynamics, foraging studies in the forest canopy and shrub layers,  and the effects of the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid.  Our own studies in feeder fidelity by songbirds garnered many interesting discussions within the group.

There was also a presentation on the use of e-bird, and the related app.  Ebird is an important tool for the birder who wants to know what bird to expect in a region they are soon to visit.  It is also valuable as a way to include your birding adventures in a worldwide database that could help  conservation efforts on many fronts.  We encourage you to explore the Ebird website for more information.

But, as always, we encourage you to go outside and explore the forests, fields and waterways nearest your home, and nearest to your heart.  We are always eager to hear what you have seen, and we may even be able to come along.  Just send us an e-mail.

As always, I hope to see you outside!
Jackie
